Experts claimed that, a glass of unsweetened cherry juice can work like common non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and it can take the pain out of a heavy workout. In a study, Oregon Health and Science University researchers found that runners who drank the juice (cherry), before training for a long-distance relay had 23 per cent less pain level when compared to those who had artificial fruit drink. Dr Kerry Kuehl, a sports medicine specialist at Oregon Health and Science University said: “Our research suggests that tart cherry juice may work like common non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, used by millions to treat pain and inflammation after exercise. “Also, drinking tart cherry juice may help people avoid negative side effects of these drugs,” he added The secret behind the benefits of cherry juice is a compound present called anthocyanins, which are the pigments that give cherries their bright red color and are also believed to be the key to helping the body relieve inflammation.
