Potluck Parties are a great way to have an informal get-together for family and friends. They are lot of fun, low on fuss and work out to be economical, since the cost of food and drink is shared. So in this way the host has the freedom to enjoy the party as mush as the guest.
Plan a theme rather than deciding on random dishes. Choose from Indian, Continental, Chinese or Italian Cuisines. Plan the menu that is starters, 3-4 main dishes, salads, breads, rice and desserts. Take the help of one of your family member or a friend to plan the party, but resist discussing with too many participants as too many cook spoil the broth.
The main dishes of the party should be contributed by the best cook in the party. The host usually takes one of the main dishes. If it is an Indian menu, do not forget to arrange for chappatis or parathas.
The host gets to decide what the ambiance would be, they also have the option to choose all the linen, cutlery and crockery. If the number of guests is on the larger sides, use stylish disposables in the party. Several good varieties in these disposables are available in the market. Do not forget to arrange for appropriate music and even a few party games particularly if there are children in the groups. Do take care of the soft drinks or hard drinks depending upon the crowd of the party. The cost of the drinks could be shared or the guests can bring drinks of their own choice. Set out the right type of glasses for the drinks with paper napkins, and do not forget the starters along with the drinks.

- Make sure that your food arrives in good shape
- And check with your host about how many servings your dish should be
- If there is any assistance required for the party arrangements, make sure that your contribution serves the purpose.
- At the end of the party, collect your dishes and do not expect your host to clean for you.
