Dry skin is a very common problem. Your skin needs moisture to stay smooth and soft. For some, dry skin is a problem not just in the winter but for summers also. Our skin also looses moisture more readily in the winter.
Dry skin can also come from using harsh cleansers, having too hot a bath. Here are a few tips to help you minimize that annoying, itchy dry skin:
- A moisturizer performs several important functions. Moisturizers are designed to reduce water loss and also further dryness.
- Do not take bath with very hot water. Hot baths damages dry skin in the winter months. Instead try, warm baths or showers. Once you are gone with your bath gently pat dry your skin and then moisturize right away.
- Increase the intake of water, as skin needs lots of water. This increases the body’s natural moisture level. If you are suffering with dry lips, licking them won't bring relief - it will only make them more dry and chapped. To keep your lips soft and smooth, apply a moisturizing lip balm, especially before going to bed.
Try some home remedies for dry skin like:
Splash your face with ice cold water every single day, at least ten times. This increases circulation and blood flow to the face, giving it a glow. Regular exercise also brings about a natural glow. Wash your face with day old curd every morning, for a shine. You can also apply a mixture of equal amounts of lemon and honey and wash off in ten minutes.
Never wash your face with hot water, no matter how cold it is. Always use cold or lukewarm water to wash your face. Apply egg yolk to your face - it will nourish and moisturize your skin. Honey is also an excellent moisturizer. Apply honey on your face and leave it for about 10 - 15 minutes. This prevents dryness. Use a non-alcohol, moisturizing toner. Also, carry a moisturizer with you all day, so you can use it whenever required.
